I was able to book a week car rental for half the price this Feb with Avis by picking up the car at the 17th street location, which is only a short cab ride away. If the costs savings are worth it to you it makes for a great deal and it is only 10 mins from the airport.
Be careful with Hotwire on rental cars...the car types they show on the website are not what the agency offers locally. We rented a Cadillac ATS or similar for San Jose de Cabo in Mexico on 7/23/15 and the similar was a Nissan Maxima...which I would have been ok with but you can rent a Nissan Maxima or similar at the same location for 1/2 the cost.

I didn't use Hotwire, used Kayak. It was Dollar, the guy said it was about 1.5 mi north of the airport. 2400 Miami Road. That didn't work for me in many ways as I have two small children, arriving late after the off-airport rental location is closed.
