You can buy a prepaid mobile phone with a variety of plans available at any 7-11 store -- these are what we call convenience stores and are everywhere in the US. Also Target department stores have a variety of brands and plans available and Radio Shack -- which is an electronics store have prepaid phones of different brands and plans available.

If your son can wait until he gets off of the airport, it would be so much cheaper to go to a Walmart, Target, Best Buy king of store. If he has to buy at DFW, there are two located in the D terminal- Best Buy Express and Straight Talk Wireless.

Thanks. I was actually referring to prepaid mobile phone cards where we can just loan the SIM card into the phone. Just wondering if it's less costly if we use our mobile phones paying international dial rates (based on our existing mobile plans fm our home country) in the US rather than purchase 3 prepaid mobile phonecards.
If you travel to the USA alot, i'd suggest buying a one year sim so you can use the same number. First year is $100 plus tax so expensive. But top up (even a small amount) before your renewal say $10, and you keep all your minutes and your number for another year. And keep going. Report inappropriate content.
