    Alice, the embassy website is not necessarily truthful- their main income stream is selling visas so they do their best to discourage VOA, even lying to do so.     There is no unrestricted access to the Internet in Vietnam. It is not as bad as China, but it's certainly not as free as in most democratic countries. FB and Google are not blocked, but I think the VIetnamese versions of BBC, VOA, RFA are blocked. I can read my news on WSJ, but can't comment, because the comments are blocked.

    The wife is Vietnamese, again, no such luck. Not once has she been asked for any money either, going in or out of Vietnam. And she is there now. Even if you have a e-visa, there is nothing to stop you arriving one day before it finishes and then leave the very next day..Peoples plans change, one reason to always allow for that possibility.
