Check your application carefully and your E-Visa immediately you get it. Personally, I'd get the E-Visa /before/ getting the flights, but I'm risk averse.

    Vietnam is 14 hours ahead of LA. If you add 14 hours plus 21.10 travel time = 35.10 = 24+ 11.10 = 11.10 am arrival in HCMC on the 11th.. On the way home is the opposite, take 14 hours off your 17.50 travel time = 3.50 + 5.45 = 9.35pm arrival in LA.
