Hertz must know that this scam is going on, even based on the number of complaints of similar things on Trip Advisor. This has ruined my previous good perception of Hertz and based on all other comments, it seems as if I am not alone. The most valuable thing that Hertz have is surely their good name and the protection of their brand.

Hertz Australia also told us that this type of behaviour is common in the US and passed us on to a customer complaint team. They closed the case without even speaking to us. We had to chase them to open it again. They been extremely blasé about the entire incident with an email showing the signed receipt (der!!!!) confirming "you paid, bad luck".
