The Hong Kong Jockey Club ( HKJC) was founded in 1884 and is one of the oldest institutions in Hong Kong. In 1960, it was granted a royal charter and renamed The Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club ( 英皇御准香港賽馬會 ). The institution reverted to its original name in 1996 due to the handover of Hong Kong in 1997.

The horse racing season begins in September but fixtures for the 2024/25 season won't be announced until July. The current (2023/24) season began on Sunday 10th September at Sha Tin followed by Happy Valley on Wednesday 13th September with races following on each subsequent Sunday at Sha Tin and Wednesday at Happy Valley for the rest of September and October.
Dec 2022. Every Wednesday races at Happy Valley. Within the high rises of Hong Kong one of the oldest racetracks of the world and still vivid and enormous popular. Gotta go there to feel how important the races are. Just go there an watch the first two races the people at the racetrack and than take a gamble.

Fixtures for the 23/24 season were published on 25th July 2023 so fixtures for season 24/25 should be published quite shortly. The Hong Kong Gold Cup is a Group One Hong Kong Thoroughbred horse race held annually since 1979 at Sha Tin Racecourse.It is open to horses three years of age and older. Run on turf, it was initially run over a distance of 1,800 metres, but is now set at 2,000 metres (ten furlongs) and it offers a purse of HK$12,000,000.
