I did a lot of searching and ended up with a Ford Transport van from National. Based on recommendations on this board I did check my insurance and the confirmed it was a covered vehicle.

Large 12 or 15 Passenger Van Rental. 7 years ago. I need a large 12 or 15 passenger van. We are arriving into the Kona airport. I will need it for 1 week. 7/15 to 7/22. It seems none of the rental agencies carry them in Kona. I found one at Dollar but it is $2k for the week. OUCH. If I can not find it cheaper then I will take that one at Dollar.
And as mentioned, the major car rental companies such as Avis also rent 12 passenger vans. From my experience (driving a 15 passenger van four days a week, for five years), the ride is not all that comfortable. Since you have eight passengers, maybe consider a large SUV, such as a Yukon XL. Or perhaps renting two mini-vans, depending on luggage ...

Be aware that your cc will not cover these vehicles as they are considered 'commercial'. Also most do not come with unlimited mileage like a car.
