   Thanks, just now I booked using my USAA discount through hertz and it was about $570/mo taxes etc included - so about $19/day which is reasonable I think. Previously I was using a different code which I assumed would be cheaper but I guess not. That relay rides site does look very cool - pretty much exactly what I was originally looking for.

   Hertz doesn't charge the fee if you are an AAA member. I'm not sure if it would be the same if you join the auto club in Netherlands. There is some info online about ANWB members being able to come to an AAA office in the states to get maps and discount cards, but that doesn't really make you an AAA member.
