Re: Hertz Plate Pass now charges only for the days actually used. 5 years ago. Update now: Hertz $5.95 fee for each calendar day when tolls are incurred plus tolls (at posted cash/TOLL-BY-PLATE rates). There is no maximum PlatePass convenience fee. Dollar and Thrifty US$ 10,49 flat fee per day.

For rental cars, they work off license plates. In Texas, Hertz registers their cars with PlatePass, their third party partner for tolls. When the car is so registered, PlatePass gets the bill and processes it for Hertz, charging your card a fee for each day you use a toll road, plus the usual pay-by-mail toll.
Just a heads up. HERTZ has "platepass" for Tolls. I opted out and used my own ezpass. However I still got charged by this 3rd party money making scham. It's been 3 weeks dealing directly with platepass and still not resolved. Even after I provided my detailed EZPass statement.
I've just found this from the platepass section of there website: "Cost. Fee: Hertz customers will pay a service fee of $2.50 per rental day, including any days when customers do not use PlatePass®, plus the posted cash toll rate for any incurred tolls. The maximum service charge (excluding tolls) is $10.00 per month.
