WA. 12 posts. Car Rental tip - beware of the Exchange Rate Scam. 15 years ago. Just back from Riviera Maya and we had rented a car in Cancun from National Car Rental. I had done a lot of research (very helpful) on these forums and finally went with the full insurance coverage. What we didn’t find was any information on exchange rates.

Just wanted to post about another excellent experience renting from National at the Cancun airport (Feb 12-21, 2023). We haven’t been back to Mexico since Covid, but twice before had a great experience with National Rental Car in Cancun.
Horrible experience renting a car at the NATIONAL car rental location in CANCUN, Mexico and yes - they are scammers and thieves. There are many post on social media warning people of the endless scams these thieves foist on unsuspecting tourist. Sometimes the spare tire goes missing and you have to pay 387.

FYI after 20+ years of renting a car, this might have been the easiest and most quality experience yet. This time I was able to book online directly with National Car Rental. Of course it was like $5US PER WEEK including taxes.
