The rental car uses one of two methods for paying for the tolls. 1. It may have a transponder attached to the windscreen and this has an on/off switch ... make sure it is off. 2. They may use a toll-by-plate method to pay for the tolls. If there isn't a transponder then the toll-by-plate method is used.

Although the sticker is only $5, you may or may not get it off the windshield. The portable transponder with the suction cups is going to cost more than the $19.75 maximum admin fees charged by rental's toll program. If you plan on returning to Florida, I would get a portable transponder.

So from this it seems that once ...
Adding, jus to avoid confusion -- you asked about SunPass, that is different than E-Pass, which I was mentioning. They both work in Florida for your purposes and they both have versions that work elsewhere. The E-Pass sticker is free, Sun Pass sticker is $5.
5. Re: Sunpass mini for rental car questions. 4 years ago. My comment as from experience too. I did rent through Alamo when I was in California in 2018. I had to pass through the Golden Gate Bridge toll south bound on 101 on my way to the airport. I only paid 11 or $12. The toll was about $8 and the fee was about $4.
1. Re: sunpass in a rental car`. It varries from rental car company to company, some do not allow you to decline their program while others do...those that do allow you to decline WILL charge you a fee for doing so and then using a cashless toll. 2. Re: sunpass in a rental car`. As always read the fine print before signing anything.
