As mentioned, at 2 or 3 in the morning the shuttles are probably less frequent but they constantly run so no reservation needed.
The car rental center is open 24/7. Personally, I would deal with the rental car and then drive to either the Happy Valley or Anthem exits in Phoenix.Going back to the rental car center is going to take a fair chunk of time the next morning and I would rather just get on the road to something fun and interesting before the heat of the day.
The major car rental agencies are off site and open late. My brother arrived after Midnight last fall and didn't have an issue. Procedure is you board a shuttle with the name of the car rental agency outside the terminal to get to the car rental off site location. There are 2 terminals in Detroit. Which airline are you flying?

As long as planes are taking off and landing shuttles are running. There is no other way to get to a rental car.

Most of the majors have other rental locations, usually cheaper, but also usually have limited hours. "Frequent renter" programs work for those as well.
7,613 posts. 2. Re: Car hire from Detroit DTW airport. 11 years ago. All of the major rental companies (Hertz, Avis, National, Alamo, Enterprise, Budget, Dollar) are at DTW. All are going to offer roughly the same level of cars and service. Price will be your biggest concern unless you already have a preference.
