There is no mention of a charge for a 65+ driver. I called them and got the same information. I think there is some misunderstanding here.

   I'm looking at 70 in the rear view mirror, hahaha. I've not seen age restrictions on anything but the car rentals you mentioned. I'm not going to drive in Europe (did that in my 30's, lol!). To me the bigger issue is physical ability both from the impact of aging and perhaps a disease process.

   Yes you can rent at your age in Italy. I think the top age limit I saw was 85. Ireland is where I think the 70 year age limit kicks in. You can rent an automatic but it will cost much more.    I think each company goes on what they can get insurance for. I do think though some may be weary about older people about hiring their vehicles as they are the most likely to potentially get confused behind the wheel.

It is only required where your license is not in Roman or when you are driving in a country that doesn't use Roman. It is not a license anyway, just a translation of your existing state license.

   6. Re: car rental for seniors. i disagree that there is an "upper limit" of 75. there isn't ! as i pointed out, hertz is 99. and as i am well over 75, there has NEVER (so far) been any reference to my age. and rentals have included enterprise, alamo, budget, europcar, buchbinder/ global etc.
