AARP rates are not significant, maybe 8% before taxes and fees. Priceline has the best car rental rates. We have used them many times and have never had a problem. You do have to pay up-front, and if something happens and you do not take your trip you still have to pay for the car through Priceline.
16 years ago. We tend to use Hertz or Budget. The check in/out process with both companies is very quick and easy (I belong to the Hertz #1 Gold and Budget FastBreak). I've found that all of the car companies have very competitive rates. We got a great discount with Budget for our December trip through Costco.

Thanks for the many replies. Here are my latest "finds": I tried the AARP Travel Center (powered by Expedia), which claims an AARP Member Benefit with Special Discounted Rates! The result: an Economy 4 door car was $26.36/ day, total price of $289.96, or a Compact Car for $27.51, total price of $300.81. And these rates were also from Budget.

We could get away with anything above a compact-anyone been recently and have rented using the drive happy deal?
