The reason I want a Visitor Toll Pass is that it covers the whole of Florida and supposedly, the tolls are significantly cheaper than if I accept the toll program from the car rental company. We are renting from Hertz, and they charge around 6$ per day plus the highest toll rate if the car passes through a toll section. I'm not thrilled about ...
1. Re: (yet another) HERTZ and SunPass mini questions-post. 4 years ago. Hello again Erikderek! Here is the Hertz PlatePass policy: $4.95 fee for each calendar day when tolls are incurred plus tolls (at posted cash/TOLL-BY-PLATE rates). There is no maximum PlatePass convenience fee.

Before I came to Orlando from the UK I checked out the e-pass web site, and read that I didn’t have to pay the car hire company either £20 or £15 (plus the tolls) per day, but could go to the e-pass office and open an account with my credit card.
The maximum service charge (excluding tolls) is $10.00 per month. After the rental car is returned, your credit card will be charged separately for the posted cash toll rate for the tolls used (as opposed to any discounted electronic toll rate) and the applicable service fee. Charges will appear on your credit card by PlatePass®.

We were renting with Dollar at Miami Intl and they wanted $7.99 per day or $41.99 per week but you had to pay for entire rental period (i.e.$84 for our twp week rental)! However, as we were not expecting to do much expressway driving we declined.
5 years ago. It depends on the rental agency. Some you have to "opt in" to the program, some like Alamo bill you a $4 fee only on the days you use the electronic Sunpass Lanes. I used their program in California, and it worked as advertised. I received a bill plus the admin fee about three weeks later. Most of the toll roads in Orlando take cash.
EXCEPT there are in fact toll locations that have no coin unit like the south bound location on Sinclair Road just west of WDW on 428 ... the open toll is $.26 (26 cents). PLUS Thrifty's open toll admin fee of $15.00... or you could pay their daily rate of nearly $10.
