When I got to the rental counter after an hour standing in line, the agent could not find any reservation for me.

However time pressures sometimes means it’s easier to see the sort of prices on offer on an aggregator site rather than traveling through each supplier individually. I’ve learned a lesson though. So these scammers you speak about who charged you $128 extra, is the rental car agency if this was a pre-paid rental.
