If you are booking you must book direct with the airlines as just because the fare with the airline is totally refundable an OTA can modify that to make it hard to collect a refund giving you only a partial refund, or even no refund. Insurance is the same thing.

Allianz Global Assistance is one of the big 3 global travel insurances. They are presented in many countries. I usually purchased medical coverage, but once I got trip cancellation coverage because of the money my trip cost and I thought it would be a great idea to sort of protecting the investment because most of the money spent was non-refundable.
Trip cancellation coverage gives cash back for prepaid, nonrefundable payments if you have to cancel your trip for one of the reasons covered by your policy. Some reasons include sudden covered medical emergencies, financial default of a covered airline , cruise line or tour operator, employer termination, terrorist incidents, and jury duty.
