I know if you book a bundle for air/hotel, the air is billed under the airline. For cruises, it is under the cruise company as well. So maybe the same for hotels.

This looks very much like a standard catch-all message which is sent out whenever there is any kind of problem with a card payment, and it covers all eventualities. If the card had declined then, as mentioned, no money would have left the OP's account.
In the subject line use the numbers/ letters of your itinerary followed by "Inquiry#1" then follow that up next day with the same thing followed by Inquiry#2, etc. , etc. . In the body of the e-mail, again start by referencing the itinerary number followed by names, followed by your specific requests.

Answer 1 of 3: Two of my hotels booked for my trip on Expedia say that they are reserved and have no hotel confirmation number while another two state that they are merely reserved and have no confirmation number from the hotel--only the Expedia one.
If you can't afford to have a card hold on your hotel visit you shouldn't be there in the first place. What you are talking about is just irresponsibility. To the OP, Expedia has horrible customer service, even dealing with hotel reservations. Unless you get the hotel staff on your side you are pretty much screwed.
