   Great post, but no one answered the original question. Does anyone have personal experience with a rental company that accepts debit cards. This is only one example, another example is someone who has bad credit or a bankruptcy and can't get a credit card but still needs to travel and rent a car and has a debit card and plenty of money on it.

   personally I always use my debit card. I only use Enterprise. They hold $300 (my rentals average $100-200 total) and refund the balance when I return the car. I rent from them a lot and is really consistent. This works for me and my fam. ex: car rental is $100/total. They hold $300. When I return the car I get $200 back as a refund apprx 3-4 ...

   When a car is checked out to you and you sign the contract the total is placed on hold on a credit card plus a cushion in case of extra charges. With a debit card the company can't be sure the money will be there since you can take the money out. Purchase a preloaded credit card and make sure it is twice the amount of the rental.

   I use a debit card to rent from Enterprise. In addition to the rental charges, they charge another $200 deposit. It's quickly refunded when I return the car. One time, the cost if a gallon of gas was deducted because I didn't bring the car back full.
