Make a reservation through them as far out as possible, no payment required. Keep checking back as prices do go down, cancel existing reservation and re book at the lower price.

My husband, who picks up the car, said the Budget line was HUGE, and the Avis line was very short, like none.

   -Hawaiian airlines discount with Avis: K816401 (This one tends to be the cheapest)-Island air discount with Budget: U030087-Other rental car options include Discount hawaii car rental, Adventures rent-a-jeep (used cheap 4x4s), Costco, Priceline and Expedia. I'm sure there are lots more options, but found these to be the best.
