YES I definitely plan to come back to WY and MT in the future and see Yellowstone NP, Glacier NP, and other beauties. But for now (I won't go into unnecessary details why) this trip is about getting to four states and ND last - and yes, for those who know, gaining my entry into the "Best for Last" club.
I understand “best” is subjective…I have an upcoming trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP with my 90 year old mother. Our itinerary has us flying into Bozeman (late), renting a car, spending one night in Bozeman, 3 nights in Yellowstone, 2 nights in Grand Teton at Jackson Lake lodge, and then traveling back to Bozeman for a night and 6AM flight home the next morning.

Also, Red Lodge is about 2 hr 15 minutes from Bozeman- you’d save about 30 minutes getting there by being in Livingston.
This is one option - Saturday night - stay in Bozeman. Sunday night - try to get a reservation at Old Faithful. West Yellowstone if you can't get a reservation at OF.. Monday night - try to get a reservation at Mammoth or Gardiner.
