It is basically a limitation of Amtrak's inventory system. The Texas Eagle carries two through cars, a coach and a sleeper, for Los Angeles which are switched to/from the Sunset Limited, which only runs three times a week. Those two cars are "422" and the rest of train,which originates to San Antonio, is "22".

The Amtrak website is very, very misleading in the way the business class, dining car and overall trains look and are maintained. This train was not clean overall and bathrooms are disgusting due to age and lack of deep cleaning.
