It included all of the insurance and I had a worry-free trip. I booked again for a trip in 2020 it was going to cost me €897 for a compact automatic for 12 days.

The rental car company has to have third party liability coverage on the vehicle, which is the primary coverage (there's no extra fee for this - it's included in your rental fee, although they do give an option to increase the limit for a fee.) Thus the need to declare all drivers, and pay extra if the rental car company charges extra.
Make the reservation in the Driver's name.....it matters not who has the Costco card. The car rental counter locally is not usually focused on who's the member and who is not. They get tons of Costco rentals throughout the day. In approx 100 rentals , I have been asked to present a Costco card once. They barely glanced at it.
We buy the coverage from the rental company. We had a friend whose rental car was damaged by a hotel valet employee. 9. Re: Rental car insurance. 4 years ago. Save. If I'm only paying $15-20/day to rent the car, I'm not going to pay $10/day for insurance. I've noticed a trend that many companies show a 2-3" circle on the damage form saying that you won't be responsible and you won't have to record anything smaller than that.
