It included all of the insurance and I had a worry-free trip. I booked again for a trip in 2020 it was going to cost me €897 for a compact automatic for 12 days.
Rental car companies that accept North American issued Credit Card coverage do NOT accept any other ‘third party’ coverage such as trip insurance. And the savings isn't enough to warrant getting a new Costco membership either. Or at least to bother going to get one. I guess the question is whether or not I can book the rental car through Costco with my fiance's membership card, but the rental be under my name and if we will have any problems. Thanks.
The rental car company has to have third party liability coverage on the vehicle, which is the primary coverage (there's no extra fee for this - it's included in your rental fee, although they do give an option to increase the limit for a fee.) Thus the need to declare all drivers, and pay extra if the rental car company charges extra.
I've read that CDW is required in Ireland but when we originally booked for May 2020, I checked with my credit card and they said I could request a confirmation of coverage letter 2 weeks before we left. In the mean time, the trip insurance policy I purchased came with $40,000 of (primary) rental car coverage.
No need to purchase insurance from the rental agency - way too expensive! Check with SGI or your insurance agent. Credit card coverage is fine except it does not cover "loss of use" for the rental agency. This coverage is for downtime of the vehicle - charges that may be assessed because the damaged vehicle can't be put back into service.
