    5 years ago. OP - Get a better VPN, I'm using Google daily, works great (returns search results quickly) for searches in either English or Chinese, and have always liked it better than Bing. Mike, just tried Bing and it too is working just fine, though since I have my VPN on, it's the US version and not the China one. Report inappropriate content.

    5-star hotels usually have CNN, BBC, and a few STAR channels--sports, movies, etc. STAR is a Hong Kong -based network. Locally, there is only CCTV9, Chinese Central TV's English-language Channel. This is what I get when I stay in cheap 1 and 2-star places. Hopefully, someone who has stayed at the Peninsual can give you a more specific answer.

    The only thing is that upload speeds are very slow due to limited supply of bandwidth into/out of the country. So you might find that uploading video takes an inordinate amount of time to do. Midnight to 6 am (China time) tends to be faster. If you have a VPN with Hong Kong server option, that could speed things up quite a bit.
