If you do ByPass the Counter (after check-in)- you enter a credit card. Alamo authorizes $1.00 immediately to that card. I do not know the cancel policy after this stage.
It does not seem possible to modify or cancel a reservation online either, as a message advising that "this reservation cannot be modified online - please call customer service at ..." appears on any attempt to view an existing reservation. Alamo, how about getting you act together - your problems are not making for happy customers.
Alamo Question. 9 years ago. So, I booked an Alamo rental car through Costco. Then I called Alamo to see if they could add my Alamo Insider number to the reservation. The first person I talked to said she could not do it, but could transfer me to someone who could and she would give that person all of the information we discussed.

She offered to cancel my reservation and refund my money. I declined at that point. The rental agency would have been able to offer me a car in a couple of hours, but at three times the price of my original reservation. I was pretty desperate, and the rental counter agent finally sent me to the manager at the Hertz counter nearby.
Just dropped off my Alamo rental after staying in Kihei for 4 days. We drove all over the place, from the RTH up to Haleakala NP and no mechanical issues or flat tires. We also parked at multiple beaches, marinas, shopping centers, and a condo in N. Kihei and did not experience break-in.
The way I have done it:: Alamo has "Skip the counter option". Become a loyalty member with Alamo. Rent through Costco. Take the Costco/Alamo confirmation #, go to the Alamo site using your loyalty number. Look up your reservation with the # . When you checkin 48 hour or more hours before pickup you can chose the Skip.
Alamo Car Rental Experience. My wife and I arrived on a 1:30 p.m. flight on Tuesday. Got through the Save Travels screening and went right to the Alamo shuttle. Only one other person on the shuttle with us and no one else in line. Got to the counter in just a couple minutes and were off with our car only a few minutes later.
