    According to the link above Advantage will debit your card the total of the rental plus up to $140 deposit. So, if your rental total is $200 plus a $140 deposit= $340 debited from your card immediately and then the deposit refunded some days after you return the car. Again, all companies do not have the same policy. Read the T&Cs.

There are ways to get around it, but they need a credit card and will put a large hold on it, or need an equally large amount of cash as a deposit.

Avis: $500 minimum deposit and a credit check. Thrifty (MORE RUDE): Deposit fo the cost of the rental plus up to an additional $250.00 and a "debit screening".

    Look at the bottom of their web page, and click on "Policies". It states the credit card hold will be the estimated rental price, plus 15%. However, our experience last September at the MCO location was different. We presented a debit card. A hold of only half the estimated amount was taken out of that card, then the next day it disapeared.
