Hi, I am from Cambridge, England and recently completed Route 66 in October/ November 2013 and did it in 5 weeks. A really enjoyable and worthwhile experience and would go back tomorrow, there is so much to see.
Then there are extortionate airport service fees and other miscellaneous charges totalling another $160. To cap it all, the whole lot is taxed for another $50. In total, our $480 rental became $899. Absolutely unbelievable - never had anything like that in all the hundreds of cars I've rented around the world.
The thing I hated with Dollar car out of Chicago Airport was the fact that we had to pay for a full tank of petrol up front, whether we used it or not. We were only there for a couple of days and used just over a quarter of a tank, once you add that cost into the price, Dollar rentals was not so cheap after all.

Good evening. I am French and I had rent a Suv car for a month beginning of July 2016. It was already paid per Internet. When we arrived to Chicago we pass the queue and when the dollars guy speak to us ( not nice at all) I ask him how much it will cost me to have an additional driver.
