4. Re: Best area of Tunis for first timers. Dec 10, 2023, 3:46 PM. My stays in Tunis have been at Carlton hotel in main boulevard - not saying its the best area but for me it's 10-15 mins walk to either Medina - rail station - metro station to Carthage and coffee shops and restaurants nearby.

Top ways to experience Medina of Tunis. Quite nice to walk around. its not huge so never got lost and you will probably end up at a nice square with a fountain and a hotel with seating outside for a coffee. Locals seem to shop here and there are a lot of shops that sell tourist souvenirs. Great food stalls and lots of colour and smells.
