Any phone you buy at CW will automatically be unlocked and you could buy a French SIM with an appropriate amount of credit when you get to Paris.

On my very cheap Nokia there's an option in the Contacts menu to Copy a contact phone>SIM or SIM>phone. The information that can be stored on a SIM is a lot less than can be stored in the phone.

   I have a similar issue. My US phone is an elderly flip phone from TracFone. It is not possible to swap out the SIM for overseas use. As I will spend 6 weeks in the UK, I was planning to go to Carphone Warehouse and ask which inexpensive pay-as-you-go phone and plan would be best for my needs (texting and a few calls in the UK ... ability to call the US is a bonus but not required).
