Lucky Stores is an American supermarket chain founded in San Leandro, California, in 1935. Lucky is currently operated by Albertsons in Utah and Save Mart Supermarkets in Northern California . In 1998, Lucky's parent company, American Stores, was taken over by Albertsons, and by 1999, the Lucky brand had disappeared.
In 2007, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit awarded Albertsons an injunction against Grocery Outlet over its use of the Lucky brand name in a Rocklin, California, store. 4. Re: Cheapest supermarket chains. 11 years ago. IMHO, VONS (a Safeway company) and Ralphs are the most expensive in SoCal for Main Stream. Albertsons can be a bit less. Gelson's and Whole Foods are the most expensive, IMHO. If you want a Healthy Grocery Store, check out Sprouts Farmers Market in Southern California.
