Malayalam is the official language of Kerala, [ 467] and one of the six Classical languages of India. [ 468] There is a significant Tamil population throughout Kerala mainly in Idukki district and Palakkad district which accounts for 17.48% and 4.8% of each district's total population. [ 469]

Idukki district is the largest district in Kerala with a total land area of 4,61,223.14 hectare.
