It sounds like OP was expecting the refund on his/her credit card as fast as the airline take the money when booking, also did not expect to lose £50 for cancelling due to time change of flight. The refund will take a few days, call Ryanair and challenge the £50 charge.
Only expensive refundable tickets are refundable. If it's non refundable you would be entitled to claim back the APD (£80 in economy) but the airline is entitled to charge an admin fee for doing it. Their conditions of carriage should tell you if they do. Some tickets also have a cancellation fee.
