Normally, I'd think the I-29 to I-635 route would be slightly faster, but either route should be fine. Parts of southwest Kansas are now drier than during the dust bowl days. Several highways were closed yesterday because of blowing dust and smoke from grass fires which burned about 25,000 acres. Wind gust over 70 mph, no storm, just straight line winds strong enough to blow semi trucks/trailers over.

Salina has many more options for food and lodging. Both cities have a lot to do, though Old Abilene town is far down my picks.
