Watch for any restrictions on rewards due to holidays (such as NYEve). If you are redeeming for a show ticket I would call & get it booked right away once you redeem.

Onsen ryokans are NOT closed during that period, but they will certainly be more expensive. Chain restaurants will most likely be open. Small privately owned establishments will be closed.
