The best time to shop for a visitor is during the week when more people are working.;) Virtually all stores are open on Sunday these days, but as Fox says, many open later. The smaller boutiques downtown in Soho, the illage, Nolita open later than bigger stores normally. There are no set opening hours that all stores follow.

Answer 1 of 3: I'm getting into town around 3pm on a Sunday (July 3), and planned on just shopping around my hotel area (Times Square, Rockefeller Center, 5th Ave and 57th Street) for the evening.
All shops open at 9am, sometimes 10, and close at 5-5:30pm, with the exception of supermarkets which open at 6-8am and close at 9pm. Sunday trading is strictly between 11am-5pm. It's great to know that this is not the case in NY, i'l start looking at the individual store opening times now. Thanks again,
