    Google Map France can also be downloaded for offline use. You just won't get live traffic. Map use doesn't consume a ton of data anyway. I have an old but still kicking Garmin as well. I still use it when I drive in foreign countries. I then use Google Map as a back-up, primarily for searches.

Three things to make sure you have: 1 - A mount for the phone to attach to the dash or the air-vent (these can be bought quite cheaply) 2 - An Irish SIM card which you can put into your (unlocked) phone so you're no worried about data roaming.
