   1 year ago. Google maps cannot be downloaded outside of Japan. The reason for not being able to download offline maps of Japan on Google Maps is because Zenrin Co. (a Japanese mapping company) own the rights to the entire Japan cartographic area, and unlike most other countries, won't give it up to Google Maps for offline use.

   Use Google maps offline feature. Go to Google Maps, select your advitar to the right of search, next to microphone. Select offline maps. Drag Aruba, Curacau and Bonaire into download box. Download. Now when offline, google maps still works (map must be in default map mode, not satillite or terrain view since it does not retain that data).

   Google Map France can also be downloaded for offline use. You just won't get live traffic. Map use doesn't consume a ton of data anyway. I have an old but still kicking Garmin as well. I still use it when I drive in foreign countries. I then use Google Map as a back-up, primarily for searches.
