Answer 1 of 2: I just found this out for NYC, which is where I'm headed. However they have it for San Francisco too! You can see pictures of the streets of San Francisco from the comfort of your workplace.
You can try Mapillary in some areas instead of Street View. And be aware that Google information is on the jump to be rated as historical information - especially in recently developed or fully rebuilt areas. Berlin for example has some new places which look totally different than in Street View. Also Maps do not know all streets here.
