You should call Cap One and have a PIN assigned as well. At a manned POS, the machine will spit out two slips, one you sign, one is your receipt.

I was actually just coming to this forum to ask a similar question. I have a Capital One Visa and they are sending me a PIN. However, I was advised that machines that require pins treat the transaction as a debit one and since it's a credit card it will either not work or it will be treated as a cash advance.

Was able to use it at unmanned gas pumps by requesting a pin number by calling their 800 number before I left. Used it exclusively. No foreign exchange fees hit my account. Report inappropriate content.

9. Re: Which US credit card to use in Germany? 15 years ago. I strongly suggest two things: (1) Take two credit cards along. I usually bring a VISA and an AMEX card. If one card doesn't work, the other hopefully will. (2) Be sure to notify your card issuer that you will be using the card overseas, in which countries and time frame.
