2. Votes. St. Pete is the closer airport to Clearwater Beach. It is about a 15 - 20 minute ride, potentially longer if it is a busy time for traffic. Tampa is about 7 - 10 minutes further away that St. Pete airport. We find it very convenient to fly into Clearwater. Smaller airport, quick check in and security, closer to the beach, etc.
