I recently have been looking for a rental with unlimited miles myself. Some car rentals like avis and budget advertise unlimited miles, but read the fine print. They often limit the so called "unlimited miles" to only a handful of states, with a 25 - 35 cent/mile surcharge for any miles outside of those states.
Most all of the major companies (Avis Hertz, etc.) will not restrict but some of the lesser companies (Fox a good example) do pose restrictions. Definitely check Enterprise. And, as noted, be sure you get unlimited mileage. Given that your essentially doing a local rental, for sure don't rent at the airport where you would pay additional taxes.
And Avis owns Zipcar, but I don't consider Zipcar in the same category as Avis. Enterprise's business model is/was very different, focusing on city and town locations (vs airport) and picking up people at car dealerships while repairs are being made.
Be wary of taking a rental well outside of the state you rented it in. There is usually a steep price hike when they know it's for a road trip outside of the state (and bordering states) you rented it in. "Unlimited Miles" are usually void in this scenario, as "Unlimited Miles" only apply to the state in which you rent in (and bordering states with most agencies).
I guess limited mileage term it is for the entire trip. So if you stay for 3 days, then you can use 750 miles but over that you need to pay some heavy charge. I don't think car rental companies have the way to measure your per day travel. Europcar limites to 250 miles per day and Enterprise allows unlimited.
