In my experience, the American Express website air ticket prices are just as good as any OTAs, I've cross checked the prices on several occasions in my purchases with points. You don't need to transfer points anywhere else, you use your points like money to buy tickets.

2. Re: American Express Gift Cards. Amex makes a card now that replaces the old travelers checks. They give you 2 cards. You loose first that is activated you call them toll free and the first is shut down and the second becomes active. You can't use the gift cards. We traveled extensively using the new Amex travelers card and loved it.
