Depends on the company and the terms of the rental. Under some there is a 'drop off' fee, which can be as high as $125. Others no fee, but the weekly rate is higher. Most of the large companies [I use Hertz] have free drop-off within the state of FL and I do it often. The low priced folks may well have the drop-off fee.
Last month, we rented a car from Budget at the Orlando airport for a one way trip up to St. Augustine.We made it 40 miles and the car broke down on I-4. Dec 4, 2023, 5:40 PM. Considering using fox rental cars as the mini van would be about $310 for 9 days (pick up in Tampa, return to Orlando ).....compared to like $900 with all the other companies. Just nervous with the huge price difference (but if legit it would save money to use on the other big parts of the trip).
Maybe it is a walk from the international terminal but arriving nationaly it is realy close and well worth renting from a company with on-site cars.We use Alamo and have always been happy.Before you leave,check with your regular car insurance carrier AND you credit card company.Both generally offer some coverage and you probably dont need to buy additional.It is the job of the agents to try ...
1. Re: Tampa or Orlando airport/car rentals? 15 years ago. It's approximately 1 hour 15 mins drive time from Tampa and 35mins from MCO to WDW. If there was a good saving flying into Tampa then that's where I would fly into. If the majority of the places you wish to visit are in and around the WDW then I suggest you stay in that area.
