Didn't do as much as I planned as the trip was short. I drove a total of a little under 400km for the few days I had the car and I spent $3600JMD to refill the tank.
Answer 1 of 16: We have recently returned from a 10-day trip to Jamaica renting a car to tour the north and eastern areas. This was our second trip to the island, the first being in 2021, also in a rental car, but covering the west, south and central areas.
Here are the options: 1. Classique Car Rental (Good price but the reviews are confusing) 2. Island Car Rental (Higher than Classique prices but reviews are confusing again but a little better than Classique) 3. Sixt (Almost same prices as Island Car rental but better reviews)
Update my husband rented a car. i was very hesitant but he was confident it wouldn’t be an issue. worked out great in our favor as we ventured out daily on our own clock. driving was no issue either. just be aware of fast drivers and let them pass you. most places take A1 and can get to main attractions. we drove to negril, hip strip, martha bear village, local lunch spots, and airport.
Try Island Car Rental, a Jamaican company, or one of the major international car rental companies (Hertz, Avis, National, etc.). They all have desks at the airport. With that said, I never recommend anyone who has not been to the island before rent a car for many reasons. Hiring a Jamaican driver with a car is a much better option.
The only car rental companies I would think are: Island (a Jamaican company) and the large international car rental companies like Avis, National, Budget, etc. They have a desk in the transportation hall at the Montego Bay airport. A much better idea for most people is to hire a Jamaican driver with a car to take you around the country.
