There are other options about roaming in general (Carrier selection etc) which you will only see under Settings when you are outside AT&T service area.

It works fine most of the time, my husband has to use his cell phone, as it's his business phone. In case you're interested, there are bars that have toll free calls home if you order food or drink.

I always use ATT when I travel internationally, it costs $10 a day for an international plan, it automatically turns on and off when you leave the country and when you return. Unlimited talk and data so if the wifi isn't good I use my phone as a hot spot and teether my laptop to the phone.
