Just wanted to post about another excellent experience renting from National at the Cancun airport (Feb 12-21, 2023). We haven’t been back to Mexico since Covid, but twice before had a great experience with National Rental Car in Cancun.

Found a great one-time discount code, spoke with agents, confirmed everything, got it all in writing :) Reply.

After you clear customs and pick up your luggage, you will walk outside and look for someone holding a sign that reads National. The shuttle ride is less than 5 mins.
Horrible experience renting a car at the NATIONAL car rental location in CANCUN, Mexico and yes - they are scammers and thieves. There are many post on social media warning people of the endless scams these thieves foist on unsuspecting tourist. Sometimes the spare tire goes missing and you have to pay 387.

Since there seem to be many worried posts about car rental in Cancun, I thought I would post at least one positive experience. We rented from National between June 20-25. I made the reservation online at National's US site but did not prepay.
We rented a car at the airport and had to learn the real deal. We had booked the vehicle through "Hotwire.com" at about $6 per day but was unaware of the following details. Please note that you must purchase liability insurance which is mandatory and costs around $19.99 per day.
