2 weeks alter we renter another car in San Francisco (booked and prepaid on the polish website) and everything worked fine. Lady at the counter explained that every booking code needs additional code n front of it (depending on the country).

After returning the car, you can take the Automated People Mover (called AirTrain) from the Rental Car Center to the terminals. Free of charge.

I've historically had fairly good experiences with Hertz in SFO (though if you're not a gold member expect long lines at the counter), though this last rental experience has to be one of the worst I've ever had. With any of the Major Car Rental Companies, the best thing to do is sign up for the Frequent Renter Program, such as Hertz #1 Gold.Basically you do all the "paperwork" in advance at home, and in most locations, bypass the counter and go straight to your vehicle (Electronic Boards show which space it is located at), and then just show your drivers license to the Security Staff at the exit.
