4. Re: Learn from my expensive lesson - Hertz Car Hire Rip Off. Contact your credit card fraud department (ask for it when you dial 800 number) and ask them how to dispute the charges - if you mail the original receipts and website print-outs, make sure you have clear copies.
Checked our invoices again we paid $2030. $1080 more than the original reservation price ($950), to upgrade to one class above, full-size SUV which would be only $20-$30 extra if reserved online ($990-$980 in fact for exactly the same itinerary which we checked later online but with a full-size SUV).

After returning the car, you can take the Automated People Mover (called AirTrain) from the Rental Car Center to the terminals. Free of charge.
I'm sorry, but a 2 1/2 to 3 hour wait anywhere, with any car company, is just beyond belief. Are you sure you were talking about Hertz and not Fox (they both have odd letters) - Hertz is very seldom used with "discounts" in the same breath, they (and Avis) are the full-priced, full service options that business travelers and rich people (like WD, lol) use (just joking WD).

8. Re: Hertz, Avis or Alamo at SFO. 1 year ago. Yes, it is free to join any of the car rental companies "elite" memberships. Never rented at SFO so can't tell you what the car choices are like. When renting I go with whoever is cheapest and lately we've been getting cars from Avis.

I've historically had fairly good experiences with Hertz in SFO (though if you're not a gold member expect long lines at the counter), though this last rental experience has to be one of the worst I've ever had.
