If you don’t want to Be charged and don’t need to use your phone just turn cellular data off and have it on airplane mode. But you can still use watsup if there is a free WiFi.

It SEEMS to say in the fine print that from the time you make the first call to the U.S., as long as you stop using the plan before 24 hours are up, you can go as many days as you want without using it and without paying for it, and then when you do use it, you've got another 24 hours of use.
